Prolonged cornering, especially when using high grip tyres will cause the car engine oil located in the sump to 'slosh' to one side and may allow the pick-up pipe to no longer be bathed in oil – with an engine running at high RPM, it won’t be an engine running for long! This weld in aluminium sump baffle kit allows oil to flow to the centre though small windows covered by flaps but is unable to return to the outer most part of the sump when these flaps close under the oils weight.
Other designs use a system of rubber flaps, but during R&D, these were found resistant to movement, especially due the tight nature of the sump. The flap and ringed system seen here is entirely friction free allowing full and free movement the oil.
Please note, the baffle kit arrives flat packed and requires spot welding into the sump. The 8x small split rings also require careful manipulation to form the hinged part of the sump flaps. As this is fiddly and potentially annoying, a couple of spare rings are also provided.
